- "A Brief Overview of Regenerative Medicine Highlighting Recent Changes in FDA's focus on Stem Cell Clinics," Lawrence M. Barnard, DO: Prolotherapy has been used safely for nearly 100 years. PRP has been used safely for decades. Many ONMM residents are familiar with their clinical applications. Stem cells uses and applications outside of large research centers has only been allowed for the past eight years in the U.S. Many are unfamiliar with this area of clinical medicine. With recent changes to the FDA's leadership and their attitudes toward stem cell oversight, an update for ONMM residents is important and timely. Stem cell types, harvesting procedures, tissue processing techniques and deployment will be discussed. An understanding of best practices related to these areas may help ONMM residents steer clear of poor clinical outcomes but may also help them avoid serious legal problems.
- "Leadership in the Academy," Scott Evan Spagnolo-Hye, DO: In this presentation, Dr. Spagnolo-Hye will present the different committees, their leadership and their functions within the AAO. He will highlight possible opportunities for resident members to become active in the AAO.
- "Optimizing Clinical Efficacy Utilizing ICD-10 and CPT Billing and Coding," Joel D. Stein, DO, FAAO: Dr. Stein will present a thorough discussion of what the advanced resident physician should know about how to get paid for what they are going to do in life.
- "Malpractice," Lilia Gorodinsky, DO: Dr. Gorodinsky will discuss malpractice coverage and running a private practice.
