Event Description

For the first time, the Student American Academy of Osteopathy (SAAO), and the Student American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine (SAOASM) are teaming up to explore these relationships, particularly in the athletic population. The philosophy and principles of osteopathic medicine are applicable to all clinical settings and patient encounters, including those of a traumatic nature. Physical and emotional trauma causes somatic dysfunctions in all patients whether acute or chronic. Learning how to recognize and address these traumas is essential to treating the whole person. The Student Program at Convocation encourages students to be comfortable applying OMM and OMT in these challenging scenarios. We will guide OMT adaptability and creativity for various levels of mobility, comorbidities, and somatic and visceral dysfunctions. Students will collaboratively discuss OMT applications in difficult clinical settings. Hands-on workshops, lectures, and discussions will provide strategies to actively advocate for the osteopathic philosophy within the larger field of medicine.

If your new AAO or AOASM membership application has not been approved, you will be charged the nonmember rate for Convocation. It may take 24 hours for applications to be approved.
